Eudoxio, Lucia and I celebrated the anniversary of Brazil's Independence by sleeping in, lounging in hammocks and eating well. After lunch, three girls from the church came over to swim. I life guarded and started teaching one of them, Larissa, how to dive. They were fun to talk with and are now totally occupied with finding me a boyfriend.

This evening Lucia and I went walking. Earlier I had asked her if there was a good place to walk, preferably where I wouldn't have to stop for traffic and such. I should not have been surprised when we ended up circling the city's soccer stadium. It was a very pleasant evening with the background noise of Brazilian teen-agers blaring loud, American music.
